Military Affairs

The VACAPAF Military Affairs Committee is an essential venue for Alpha Phi Alpha veterans who are affiliated with VACAPAF from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, & Coast Guard. The committee provides information on VA entitlements, benefits, education, and training. The training includes knowledge of how to apply for and receive benefits ranging from financial hardship to a myriad of medical issues, including PTSD. VACAPAF leadership understands that all brothers bring value to the team. This Committee serves brothers who need information concerning VA entitlements, benefits, and training programs. Your military affairs team is ready to provide information on these benefits and ensure brothers are treated properly and promptly.

VACAPA Military Affairs Programs

Veterans Affairs

To advise veterans on issues of importance to veterans and their dependents based on input from the veteran community;
• To provide a source of liaison and communication with various groups relative to veterans issues;
• To provide information about state and federal benefits you are entitled to and how to claim them, care for your health, buy a home, and live out your years with dignity and respect;
• To promote involvement in veteran-related events and functions within the fraternity and community.

Wreaths Across America Program

Our mission is to remember brothers who have fallen, honor those who serve, and recognize the wives who are buried next to our beloved Brothers. Brothers visit the gravesites of Alpha
veterans and place a wreath on their headstones. Additionally, the brothers put a yellow rose on the wife’s grave. Currently, there are approximately 17 Alphas who are interred in Arlington. Some of the prominent Alphas buried there are Brother Thurgood Marshall, Brother LTG Roscoe Cartwright, Brother Honorable Ron Dellums, Brother BG Charles McGee, and others.

Veterans Day Breakfast

Our Veterans Day breakfast honors all Brothers who have served in the United States Armed Services. Open to all military and non-military service members. Alpha men come together for breakfast and fellowship and celebrate those veterans who are alive and those in the Omega Chapter.

Challenge Coin

VACAPAF created its first military affairs challenge coin. Military challenge coins are small tokens that symbolize membership, belonging, and camaraderie. The challenge coins are often decorated with an organizations emblem or logo and are used to recognize an individuals achievements, dedication, or exemplary service.
